Where to Eat Slovak Food in Bratislava: A Local's Honest Guide!

I'm Miloš, a local from Bratislava. Skip the generic lists, here's my honest guide to the best spots to enjoy real Slovak food in the city.

Tip #1 Roland Slovak Restaurant, right on Hlavné Námestie (Main Square)! Bratislava's been waiting ages for this a proper Slovak restaurant in the heart of the city. Solid local ingredients, skilled chefs and traditional Slovak flavours done right. Website here.

Tip #2 Pirohovo, here's the thing: Bratislava doesn't really capture what makes traditional Slovakia, well, traditional Slovakia. You won't find sheep salaše here where you'd taste this stuff in its proper setting. But what you will find is something pretty close: a food truck parked in front of a grocery store on one of Bratislava's housing estates, where the owner cranks out pierogi so good that even some salaše would tip their hats. So if you're up for a little adventure and don't mind a quick trip across town, you'll eat seriously well here. Bonus Štrkovec lake is just a stone's throw away. Locals love hanging out there after work. Instagram here.

Tip #3 PLAC, fun fact, 'plac' in Slovak slang means 'spot'. Anyway, this restaurant works mostly with basic ingredients native to Slovakia's part of the world and combines them into seriously modern, tasty dishes easy to share with friends. So yet again, we've got a fresh, quality take on what Slovak flavours actually mean. Highly recommended. Oh, and I almost forgot PLAC is on Hviezdoslavovo Námestie (Hviezdoslav square), so it's a solid second option if you don't feel like venturing too far from the city center but still want a real taste of Slovakia. Map: I've dropped all 3 restaurants onto a map for you, so they're easy to find in one place.
